Crystal Pullman's ePortfolio
This was the first concept map I had ever completed as an assignment! I didn't realize they were a big thing in post-secondary education. I never used any in my undergrad, but this was a fair bit of fun. The assignment of course was to start with e-learning, and branch out to incorporate whatever we could think of that was relevant. Mine isn't the most extensive map, but I tried to keep it concise as well.
"Contrary to what techno-utopians have to say, in our view e-learning does not represent a paradigm shift and is not the dawning of a new age in education and learning" (ETEC511). This assignment was about looking at how e-learning fits into the current education system, the theories that have either expanded to include it or developed to explain its role.
E-learning is not completely different from classroom learning. It is essentially classroom learning, simply taken out of the classrooom and in an online environment (not face to face). There are differences that need to be addressed as many institutions have discovered (funding, assignments such as presentations or participation, development, and more), and the point of this map was to flesch out some of the similarities and differences between online learning and classroom learning - the emphasis remaining on 'learning', or education.
You will find in the assignment hints of accessibility, as I looked at support, funding, training, instructional design, and educational technology. While all of these are part of learning, and particularly e-learning, in general, mine are also applicable to accessible learning, or accessible e-learning.
